Estonian Journal of Education invites submissions of articles on international cooperation

We are inviting submissions for the special issue of the Estonian Journal of Education (Eesti Haridusteaduste Ajakiri), Vol. 14, No. 1, which is due to be published in May 2026. This special issue will focus on international cooperation in Estonian educational sciences. The editors of the free issue are Miia Rannikmäe, Professor of Science Education, and Leo Siiman, Associate Professor of Educational Technology, both from the University of Tartu and Kai Pata, Associate Professor in Adult Education and Informal Education, from Tallinn University.

Authors are expected to submit high-quality empirical research articles on international and interdisciplinary cooperation that help to generate new theories and develop and validate pedagogical practices. At least one of the authors of the research article must be from outside Estonia. Preference will be given to articles on:

  • Research that involves international cooperation;
  • Results of international education projects;
  • Results of international research and development projects;
  • Interdisciplinary research in the field of education sciences;
  • Innovation in educational research;
  • Best practices developed and validated through international cooperation.

All submissions will be selected on the basis of topic and abstract (see the timetable below), and should not have been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere. The total length should be between 40,000-60,000 characters, including spaces, plus a longer English abstract (6000-9000 characters, including spaces). All articles must be written in Estonian in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA 7th edition). At least two reviewers will evaluate the articles submitted.

Deadlines for the publication are as follows:

  1. Author(s) are required to send the topic of the article(s) accompanied by the abstract in Estonian to Miia Rannikmäe (miia.rannikmae@ut.ee) by 11 April 2025 at the latest. The abstract of no more than 200 words should summarise the theory of research, the objective(s), the methodology as well as the (expected) outcomes of the study.
  2. The editors will send confirmation about the acceptance of the articles to the corresponding authors by 30 April 2025.
  3. The authors will submit properly formatted articles with a summary in English by 15 September 2025.
  4. The editors will inform the authors about the review results by 20 October 2025.
  5. The authors should consider the reviewers’ comments and submit the revised articles by 17 November 2025.
  6. Second revision of the articles (if necessary), the editors will inform the authors about the second review results by 15 December 2025.
  7. The authors will consider the comments in the second-round review and submit the final articles by 12 January 2026.
  8. Language editing of the articles: from 19 January to February 2026.
  9. Lay-out of the journal at the University of Tartu Press: from 10 March to April 2026.
  10. Date of final publication: 1 May 2026.

The Estonian Journal of Education is an international, peer-reviewed journal. The journal uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) and will be published in collaboration with the University of Tartu and Tallinn University by the University of Tartu Press. The journal is indexed in the database EBSCO Academic Search Complete, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and Google Scholar.
