Academic freedom refers to the ability of students, teaching staff, and researchers to express their views freely and ensures the independence of universities. In Estonia, academic freedom remains high, but according to a recent report, it is declining worldwide.

Preliminary results of the International Student Barometer (ISB) show that international students are satisfied with their studies at the University of Tartu. They highlight strong academic quality, supportive learning conditions and the city of Tartu as an excellent living environment.

On 1 November, the special issue of Estonian Journal of Education (Eesti Haridusteaduste Ajakiri) will be published, focusing on early second language instruction and promoting language skills in kindergarten and school.

Doctoral studies are research-based studies at the topmost level of higher education, during which the doctoral student acquires the necessary skills for independent research, development, and creative work. Doctoral studies prepare students for employment as teaching or research staff in universities and other research institutions, or as lead professional specialists in non-academic establishments.

In April 2025, we will open the exhibition "A climate you can touch. What will become of us?". The exhibition will be on display at the University of Tartu Natural History Museum until November 2025, after which it will travel as a travelling exhibition.

Doctoral studies offer the chance to become an expert in a narrow field while also developing the skills of making connections and the ability to process information, manage challenging projects, learn from criticism, and, at the same time, manage time efficiently.
