Neljapäeval, 9. mail kell 14-16 toimub Dr Monica Leppma (West Virginia Ülikool, USA) loeng “School Counseling in the United States” TÜ haridusteaduste instituudi hoones Salme 1a-209.

Ootame loengule nii üliõpilasi kui praktiseerivaid sotsiaalpedagooge ja koolipsühholooge. Loeng toimub inglise keeles.

Teemast ja esinejast: As the field of school psychology continues to develop and evolve around the world, so does the school counseling profession in the United States. The history of school counseling in America portrays a profession in search of an identity. The American School Counselor Association developed a national model in 2003 to affirm school counseling as an integral function of education. Many states and school districts are adopting the national model to address some of the historical issues that have plagued the profession, such as misconceptions about the role and significance of school counselors. Research in the U.S. demonstrates the positive effects of school counselors and comprehensive school counseling programs on students’ academic and social development. This lecture will share the factors that influenced the transformation of the school counseling profession in the U.S. In addition, this lecture will describe an organizational framework that helps to strengthen the school counseling profession and further it along its path.

Monica Leppma, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of Counselor Education at West Virginia University (WVU) in the United States. She teaches and supervises master’s level students in mental health and school counseling. She also serves as the practicum and internship field placement coordinator for community and school counseling sites, as well as the WVU liaison for the West Virginia School Counselor Association. Dr. Leppma is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida and a Nationally Certified Counselor. She received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings and in partnership with the public school district. In addition, Dr. Leppma is Estonian-American; both of her parents were born in Tartu, Estonia.
